Greenwood Bay College’s Open Day Success
Friday, May 27 2016 was an exciting day for all the parents and their Grade 7 students who will be attending Greenwood Bay College in 2017.
The day started off with a welcoming introduction to the school and then a delightful performance by the school choir. Thereafter parents and students met up with the Grade 12 tour guides and were shown around both the prep and high School.
The Greenwood Bay College grounds extend over 7 ha, with the northern boundary being the Piesang River. This offers a relaxed, tranquil atmosphere, with A-class buildings and a lovely park-like setting for the children to learn and study in.
All the learners and teachers are on a first name basis, which discourages the feeling of authority and enhances the feeling of equality. If necessary, discipline is fair and consistent and punishment is tailored to ‘fit the age and the crime’.
The High School follows the Cambridge Curriculum, with an exit point after Grade 10 (IGCSE exams) and Grade 12 (AS exams). These exams are the best-known internationally accepted exams, and are accepted and highly regarded by local universities.
The current Primary School curriculum is broad-based and equips a Grade 7 learner to enter a Cambridge school, IEB School, or State school. The small individualised classes and passionate staff, make this an ideal combination for any child’s academic growth.
Once the tours and Science demo were complete, parents were given a demonstration of the Prep School’s sporting abilities. The GBC Sports and clubs offer netball, soccer, tennis, hockey, volleyball, canoeing, chess, choir, music, drama, art and cooking, as well as horse-riding and golf. Extra-mural activities are considered vitally important to the academic curriculum.
With this all said and done – parents left Greenwood Bay College with a feeling, that their child’s academic future would be in great hands.
