AI Gatvol: A Smart Solution to Challenge Bitou’s Property Valuations
A brain trust of three experts in their fields has decided to harness the power of AI technology to alleviate the burden of objecting to Bitou property valuations.
The municipal valuation roll for Bitou is currently open for objections until 15 April.
AI Gatvol, a platform founded by Jordin Borer (finance), Elan Novick (computer science) and Michael Metlitzky (aerospace engineering), aims to use ‘big brains to solve a big problem’ for a mere ‘investment’ of R2 000.
“We have spoken to several homeowners who are concerned about the significant increase in property valuations,” said Borer.
“In response to this, the three of us decided to build an AI-powered platform that allows customers to automatically object to the valuation roll. We love Plett, love AI, and love South Africa – so we’re bringing them all together.”
The three of them have first-hand experience of the difficulty of objecting to high municipal valuations. “A normal objection requires lawyers or valuators, making it costly and inaccessible (R10 000 plus).
With the vast amount of available data, we can do it faster, smarter – and cheaper,” said Borer. “Our goal is to raise awareness about municipal valuations and simplify the objection process, making it accessible to all.
“The name ‘Gatvol’ is tongue-in-cheek, reflecting our frustration, and we hope to use the platform for broader civil society issues.”
The AI-powered platform allows customers to object to the valuation roll automatically.
