Plettenberg Bay girl sings to inspire
Despite her young age, 17-year-old Marvelene Kriga (known as Miss M) of Plettenberg Bay has the voice of a mature and confident woman.
Aiming to use her voice to inspire youths, Kriga has won some of the local talent shows in her town. She speaks fondly about her hopes and dreams, saying, “I want to inspire all of the young generation so that we can make a difference if we try.
I believe and have always believed that God has not given us a talent to do nothing with it, but to use it at every opportunity coming your way, because we only live once, so we need to make the most of it.”
She further said, “When I sing, I express my feelings and emotions through my music and it just brings light to every dark situation.”
“This inspiring and talented young lady is a great example of the young generation emerging from the most unlikely of places, giving hope to the future of South Africa,” says Carmen Clews, Kriga’s mentor.
Clews explains, “Song and dance are cultural to South Africa. It is in the blood, it is tribal, it is heritage and it is liberating. Being located in one of South Africa’s poorest regions with the highest rate of unemployment, it seems that to develop and encourage this kind of talent is imperative to the future of ever developing the communities. There is huge potential for this heritage to be encouraged and nurtured in schools and developed as national pride.”
The public can play its part in supporting Kriga by booking her for events and special occasions such as 21st birthday parties, weddings and cultural events. “These are modern day South Africans doing what is coming naturally from their heart and souls,” concluded Clews.
