Plettenberg Bay Beach Coastal Clean-up Competition
International Coastal Clean-up day held on the 15th of September 2017 was a highly successful day across the world, based on the various clean-up stories shared on social media.
Unfortunately, the Plettenberg Bay Beach Coastal Clean-up had to be cancelled due to some much-needed rain for our area.
This left NVT with a bit of a dilemma, as to what to do with the perishables in the lunch packs generously sponsored by the Western Cape Government? Fortunately, they donated the burgers and apples to the new Horizons Care group and the Drum Majorettes of the AGS in New Horizons.
The rest of the lunch pack contents were delivered to the kids at their respective schools on Monday, while they showed off the outfits that they had created for the Recycle Material Fashion competition.
The fashion show promotes the message of sustainability and the importance of recycling.
The fashion competition was one of the items on the programme for the day. The two Adopt-A-Beach schools (Kwanokathula Primary and Formosa Primary School) had to create outfits out of recycled material.
Luckily the rain did not stop the kids from producing some truly incredible and innovative outfits. With all the effort both schools had put into the competition, both were winners!
NVT would like to thank the following important stakeholders and role-players who contributed and were willing to ensure the success of the day:
Bitou Municipality, Western Cape Government, Rocky Road Wwisa, Eden District Municipality, Kwanokathula Primary School, Formosa Primary School, Greenwood Bay College – GBC, Plettenberg Bay Sea Scout Group, ORCA Foundation, Plastics|SA, WESSA Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa Blue Flag Beach Stewards, Department Environmental Affairs, ShowMe Plettenberg Bay, Percy’s Taxi’s and Keep Plett Clean.
Nature Valley Trust’s beach litter research continues weekly, and they will hosting more beach cleanup events, weather permitting!
