Plett Polo Ponies Ready to Prance: Annual Polo Season at Kurland Polo Estate

Polo enthusiasts in Plett are gearing up for the much-anticipated annual polo season at the Kurland Polo Estate, where the love for Plett and polo converges seamlessly. The estate, once devoid of polo, has now blossomed into one of Africa’s premier polo venues. This sporting spectacle not only showcases the region but has also evolved into a thriving industry, contributing significantly with an annual revenue exceeding R40 million.

The polo season, spanning from late October to April, witnessed a surge in the local polo community. Around 700 spirited polo ponies grace the area, accompanied by a dedicated team of 140 grooms. Warm-up weekends kick-start the excitement later this month, leading to the main events commencing in early December, featuring the highly anticipated Shamwari and Kurland Cups from December 4 to 10.

The calendar brims with various tournaments until it crescendos with the highlight of the polo calendar – the Plett Polo Festival. This grand event is scheduled for December 29 at the Pavilion at the Kurland Estate. Brace yourself for an exhilarating high-goal polo match, complemented by an international ladies’ game, making this festival a must-attend experience. But it’s not just about polo; the festival offers a splendid family day out, complete with delectable food and diverse entertainment options.
