Plett music enthusiasts are in for a treat with a captivating evening of opera at Ouland Royale on Saturday, March 9th, featuring the renowned soprano, Zanne Stapelberg.
Zanne embarked on her opera journey at the Conservatoire of Stellenbosch University, where she earned her Music degree with honors, followed by a Higher Licentiate in Musical Performance Cum Laude. As a former member of the Cape Town Opera Studio, she was honored as the Best Young Opera Singer by the Cape Town Friends of the Opera. Her illustrious career boasts stellar performances as Mimi in La Boheme, Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, and an array of other notable roles. Her repertoire extends to oratorios by Handel, Haydn, Vivaldi, and Mozart. Additionally, she has collaborated with numerous South African producers and composers, showcasing her versatility in various stage productions, including her own creation, the cabaret-opera “Zanne.”
Accompanying her is the esteemed pianist, Albie van Schalkwyk, Emeritus Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the College of Music, UCT. Albie, a prominent figure in South African chamber music, has graced audiences both nationally and internationally as a soloist and ensemble member. He is also a dedicated educator, conducting master classes for singers and accompanists and annually visiting Austria to perform and teach chamber music. In 2012, he completed his Ph.D. in Music.
