Plett Arts Festival – Afridocs – A Love Apart
The Plett Arts Festival took place from the 28th June till the 8th July 2018 and once again there were outstanding movies on the program.
A Love Apart was filmed by filmmaker Bettina Hansen.
Once Bettina had firmly established herself within the Nomadic Tuareg community from Niger, she was able to discretely capture their sense of values and perspective on love.
The movie follows the journey of a charismatic teenager Rhaissa, who is a goat herder. Her family have agreed to a proposal of marriage, asked for by a man that she has only ever met once.
This warm, intimate documentary follows Rhaissa as she enjoys her last few days of girlhood, whilst navigating through the long marriage ceremony.
The result is an insightful and beautifully-crafted film, that allows you to experience life through the eyes of the Nomadic Tuareg tribe.
