Living in the Anthropocene – is this humanity’s greatest ever challenge?
Eden to Addo will be hosting a hugely important discussion, entitled The Anthropocene, on the evening of February 19 in the Lagoon Room at Beacon Island Resort.
This talk is open to everyone and is presented by Ian Michler.
Our current living patterns are adversely impacting the entire biosphere and in some instances at levels approaching catastrophe. As a way of mitigating, we talk about ‘living sustainably’, but what does this all mean, why are we not transitioning more effectively and, how realistic is the ‘sustainability’ process?
Living in the Anthropocene: Is this humanity’s greatest ever challenge?
We live in a time that many within the wider scientific community now define as the Anthropocene, or the Age of Humans.
The science across every spectrum is clear; our current living patterns are adversely impacting the entire biosphere and in some instances at levels approaching catastrophe.
Transformation is imperative, and as a way of mitigating, we talk about ‘living sustainably’ to achieve our growth targets, development goals and aspirations. But, what does this all mean, why are we not transitioning more effectively and, how realistic is the ‘sustainability’ process?
Given current trends and the extreme concerns raised by many scientists, we may well also ask whether humanity has the capacity to change and, if so, do we have sufficient time? Either way, attempting to change the way we live could turn out to be our greatest ever collective challenge?
If you are concerned about the plight of this planet and human behaviour, then please join us for an insightful and lively discussion on this complex topic.
