Kurland Village Clean-Up 2017 a success
A big NVT thanks goes out to everyone who took part in the Kurland Village clean-up.
Young, old, big and small assisted on Friday for the 14th’s annual Kurland clean-up, which formed part of the International Coastal Clean-up Initiative.
As everyone gathered in the Crags Primary School Hall, anticipation rose as Deputy Mayor Jessica Kamkam addressed the community.
After dividing up into groups, the teams stormed through the streets, picking up litter and doing their bit to alleviate the waste problem in the community.
After each team had swept through their assigned area, they gathered at the Kurland Swap Shop to separate recyclables from waste.
3500 pieces of litter were collected!
The top 10 litter items collected on the day were: Cigarette Butts, Food Wrappers, Bottle Caps (Plastic), Beverage Cans, Beverage Bottles (Glass), Beverage Bottles (Plastic), Bottle caps (Metal) and Straws/Stirrers
After a group photo, all were entertained and educated in waste by the Lunchbox Theatre with their Waste Show.
NVT would like to thank the following important key stakeholders in this clean-up initiative:
Bitou Municipality, LUNCHBOX THEATRE, Western Cape Government, WWISA, Eden District Municipality, The Crags Primary School, Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency, Orca Foundation, Plastics|SA, WESSA Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa Blue Flag Beach Stewards, Department Environmental Affairs, ShowMe Plettenberg Bay, Plettenberg Bay Christian School and Brackenburn CREW
