Heritage Day weekend sport Festival a huge success
Heritage Day weekend sport Festival was held on the New Horizon Sport fields from the 23 till 25 September 2017.
On both Saturday and Sunday spectators were treated to awesome displays of great entertaining netball, rugby, soccer and 8 ball pool, while enjoying the YCPD food stalls that were available.
There was a great display of discipline and energy from all the participants. It was also amazing to see how many people had ventured out in support of the events, especially the youth and women.
On Saturday night the first ever Miss Heritage Day was held where young mothers and teens competed. A great way to unite mothers and daughters in an attempt to strengthen the mother daughter relationships.
The vibe was so electric that everyone unified behind one common goal, SPORT.
Monday turned out to be a beautiful sunny day as the finals of the rugby, netball and soccer played out. Karate and TAE BO took center stage as this was a first for the community. It’s amazing to witness all our local talented and artistic kids, young and old displaying their talents.
Unfortunately the rain started up again, which cancelled out the Netball, 8 Ball Pool finals, the Darts, the Dominoes and the Potjiekos. This did not disturb the local community as they remained to see the rugby and soccer finals.
An amazing display of power and strength was shown, as the rugby seniors and juniors battled it out for top honors. The soccer left spectators excited with the great saves and excellent goals.
This Inaugural Heritage Day weekend sport festival heated up to see who will be crowned the best. The success of the event, however was displayed through the companionship, belonging, respect and dedication that was present throughout.
A visit from the local ward councilor lifted the spirits of the organizers as she congratulated them on a successful event.
A few words from the event organiser, Adam Van Rhyner:

Parents and youngsters enjoying sport and getting to know each other all over again.

Uniting our community under one common goal.
Did you achieve our goal?
