Another Spectacular Plett Open Garden Day 2019
Garden lovers from across the Garden Route enjoyed the annual Plett Open Gardens, which took place on the 9th of November 2019 in aid of our furry friends at PAWS.
Although the weather was awfully cold with gale winds throughout the day, folk still attended and the day turned out a great success. Local garden lovers thoroughly enjoyed the eighth Plett Open Garden Day, where four outstanding Plett gardens were showcased to raise funds for PAWS.
This event has been established as a firm favourite on the Garden Route calendar. This year attracting 280 visitors and raised around R38 000. This is quite a bit down on past garden days, but nevertheless a solid contribution towards the monthly costs of about R75 000 to maintain the Primary Health Care service needs of our neglected and abused dogs and cats of Bitou.
The PAWS plant and cake sales at Ouland Royale also made a handsome contribution to the total takings for the day. The raffle for an original water colour painting by David Hall-Green, valued at R3000, will be drawn at the end of November
Visitors reported enjoying the variety of gardens featured this year and were particularly impressed with the Allen garden, where they could view a fabulous succulent roof garden and private soccer field.
The lovely Wiehahn house and garden were interesting because they both had to be rebuilt after the destruction of the 2017 fires.
The Hum Bee Floral Farm offered a departure from a conventional town garden and the Gaechter garden was an example of a low-cost indigenous garden.
PAWS is grateful to the many people who contributed to the success of the day. A big thank you to all the volunteers, garden owners, media and the many kind people who made generous contributions to ensure another successful PAWS event.
Plett Open Gardens is a delightful outdoor event, that allows visitors to view hidden garden gems while enjoying Plett’s fabulous mountain and ocean views.
