Animal Stranding Workshop
The Animal Stranding Workshop was hosted by Nature’s Valley Trust on the 11th of October 2017.
NVT continued their Marine Week celebrations with an Animal Stranding workshop at Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre.
The workshop was facilitated by the Tenikwa staff (Mandy Freemen & Hanlie Roux) and Dr Gwen Penry, who heads up the Plett Marine Stranding Network.
The workshop covered how to correctly identify marine mammal and bird species, which one may encounter being stranded. The attendees learnt how to recognise an animal in distress, what to do when they are a first responder and who to contact for further assistance.
Much fun was had as attendees gained some hands-on experience, learning how to securely lift a beached dolphin and how to safely approach stranded penguins.
NVT would like to thank Tenikwa for the use of their facilities and for facilitating this workshop with Dr. Gwenith Penry.
