Freedom Hill Boutique Weddings & Winery opened its cellar doors in November 2004. Situated on the slopes of the Wemmershoek Mountain, the historical Klompzicht estate lies between Franschhoek and Paarl.
The colourful story of the estate dates back to 1699, when it was part of the farm La Paris, which had been obtained by the French Huguenot, Francois Retief, in 1699.

The original farm measured 414 hectares and was subsequently subdivided into 11 portions. It was in 1997 that Francois Klomp, an engineer by profession, and his wife, Adila, fell in love with this beautiful 82-hectare farm. They named it Klompzicht and, combining their talents with those of a small, inspired team, set out to develop it into what has become a model boutique estate.
Their prestigious boutique range derives its name from the fact that the vineyards overlook the legendary Victor Verster prison (now the Drakenstein correctional services facility), where Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom.

Our first vines were planted in 1998, where today they thrive in our farm's Oak leaf soils, ideally suited to the cultivation of top quality red grapes. During summer, the prevailing south-easterly wind creates superb, cool ripening conditions, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and reach optimum flavour. This terrior of our estate embraces our red grape cultivars. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage are thus planted in the very sandy earth. Only hand-selected red grapes from vineyards on the farm are used for the wines. To ensure that every wine reaches the peak of perfection, all the wines are matured for between 12 and 24 months in oak barrels. A small production of ±6 000 cases per year ensures attention to detail.

A priority is foliage management: the sand soil reflects the sunlight against the grapes and the team therefore guards against removing too much foliage as the foliage protects the grapes and inhibits the alcohol level through less sun exposure.

Patrons can enjoy a glass of wine on the new veranda overlooking the vineyards and the site of the "walk to freedom". And cold days are no excuse to stay away: A huge fireplace in the renovated venue facility keeps you warm on the coldest of days (as does the wine, of course).

Having a spectacular view of the exquisite Simonsberg Mountains, Freedom Hill Boutique Weddings & Winery is blessed with a picturesque landscape, resulting in a truly impeccable ambiance creating the feeling of pure bliss and joyful freedom.

The classic Cape vineyard style venue can accommodate up to 70 seated guests (with an inside dance floor), 90 seated guests (with an outside dance floor on a covered veranda) and 120 guests in a coctail style event.

There are various areas that can be transformed into the most perfect and romantic ceremony area, to allow the couple to wed and host the reception in the same place.
With our friendly and efficient staff, all sharing a love for beautiful things, we will be offering you a proficient and polished service which will exceed your expectations, ensuring your day is stress-free, yet picture perfect.
