Whether you just want an outing for the day or make a weekend of it, there is a network of cycling routes with varying degrees of difficulty. Some routes even offer overnight facilities.

10 – Arboretum along the Berg River
The Arboretum is situated on the eastern bank of the Berg River, is 2.8 km long and occupies approximately 31 ha.
The Arboretum is divided into 6 “continents” and a unique feature is that the trees and shrubs are grouped according to continents of origin.

At the 2013 Cheese Festival held at Sandringham the six month matured Huguenot cheese from Dalewood Fromage, a cheesery in the heart of the Cape Winelands, was crowned as the 2013 Dairy Product of the Year, having trounced some 800 products entered by 69 artisan and commercial producers.

14 – Oldest olive groves in South Africa
The Olive Industry in South Africa is still young if one compares it with the Mediterranean countries where olives have been cultivated for many centuries.
De Hoop Farm has played a pioneering role in the development of the South African olive industry and specifically in Paarl.
The farm’s ancient avenue of olive trees dates back to the earliest plantings on the farm.
At the turn of the previous century De Hoop’s olive oil was voted the “best olive oil in the empire” at a London show.

The Paarl Museum is situated on a section of the farm originally granted to Pieter Janz van Marseveen by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel on 8 February 1699. This charming museum has a superb permanent collection of Cape Antiques (furniture, silver, etc.), artefacts, documents and photographs which reflect the rich cultural diversity and development of the town. Many exciting temporary exhibitions can also be seen throughout the year.
