‘n Paar handige wenke:

Please book your animals for boarding for holiday in time to avoid disappointment
Boarding
We are very proud of our dog and cat boarding kennels. All animals up for boarding need to be inoculated before entering the kennels. Animals (dogs) are taken for walks daily and they have play grounds and cats get groomed weekly. The staff give them all the love and care possible to make them feel at home.
We dip, give a variety of food, give a lot of love, warm beds, breakfast, lunch, dinner and treats like dog biscuits.
Our Boarding Tariffs are Very Reasonable!
Never leave pets in vehicles or in direct sunlight during warm, sunny days!
ANY ANIMALS IN A HOT CAR
Unlike humans, dog’s can’t release heat by sweating. They need to cool their body temperature by moving into a cool place and/or getting wet.
Heat stress can set in within 10 minutes of an animal being exposed to high temperatures i.e when the pet’s body temperature rises above 41ºC.
- Never leave pets in vehicles or in direct sunlight during warm, sunny days – even a few minutes can be dangerous
- A car standing in the sun, even with windows fully open, will very quickly cause heatstroke in animals
- When the outside air temperature is 25ºC, a car can go to 45ºC within, causing severe problems for any animal in it
- If you have to leave an animal in a car for short periods, provide them with plenty of cool water to drink and do not muzzle them

Sterilisasie
‘n Klein hondjie of katjie is altyd so oulik!
As jy wel ‘n dier soek, kom maak liewers by ons ‘n draai.
Veearts Dienste / Veterinary Services
We have a qualified veterinarian on our premises from 8H00 -13h00.

Mobiele Klinieke
Please Give a Helping Paw!
Maybe you can help us, or know someone who can.
It is very important to us to serve as many areas with our Mobile clinics. And we try not to let anything stop us from doing that.
The problem we have is that the people in Mbekweni do not always understand us, and most of time do not understand that we are there to help them and their pets.
So if you speak Xhosa and want to volunteer as a translator for us,please contact us.
It would be once every week in the mornings. For more information, just phone us.You can make a difference!!

Our Stories
We have two wonderful SPCA dogs, Biggles and Cody. They had their names already when we adopted them, they also had beautiful manners. They were obviously cherished and loved and it makes us wonder about the heartbreak of who ever had to give them up.
We had always bought pedigree dogs, our thinking being that you could predict character and traits and reliability, then we had a series of disasters. We had a beautiful young border collie named Kim, he wandered onto the neighbours farm with his big brother – a yellow labrador named Monty – and he was shot dead. Monty ran so he survived, but he develop an auto-imune type disorder and died at a very young age. We then bought a black labrador, Percy – Then the breeder of Percy asked if we could adopt his litter brother who was being a bother in Cape Town, Too rambunctious for the city.Naturally we said “with pleasure” Almost unknown with labradors, and probably because they reinforced each other, they terrorised everyone. We tried everything – trainers, fencing, you name it, but we were beaten. We sent them to school for sniffer dogs which broke our hearts.
One Saturday morning I was wafting around being mournful and seeing reminders of my boys and I called the Paarl SPCA and asked if they had any medium to large dogs (okay Suzette, you are shaking your head at me now), and Linda said they had a Labrador type! So I asked my husband to go and look at this creature, He did and came back beaming with enthusiasm for Biggles. He came to us the following Monday. He is loved by all, he is our sunshine.
Cody
Again, we were bereft, we had the strangest looking border collie, his name was Beau. He looked like a lurcher-greyhound-whippet. He was just ridiculously lovable. He was caught in a poachers snare, and only found after a week. After some time of grieving, I phoned the SPCA and asked if they had any dogs for adoption, so I met Cody. She is our first female. She has the coat of a golden retriever and the body of a border collie, and her manners are beautiful until dinner-time, she likes her food.
With the above two, we have an older dignified border collie and a very young and very cheeky Jack Russel, they are one big happy family.

Projekte

Fun Facts
History of Dogs
Dogs form part of the Canidae family, a family including wolves, coyotes and foxes, thought to have evolved 60 million years ago. The Domesticated dog is a descendent of the wolf which entered villages in the Northen Hemisphere in search of food about 12,000 years ago. People gradually discovered that the wolves could be tamed (if young) and then used for such purposes as guarding, herding and hunting. Particula characteristics were selected, which has resulted in the huge diversity of breeds today.
The first records of true domesticated dogs date back to the Egyptians where a breed of dog called the Saluki appears on the ancient tombs of Egypt from around 2100 BC and is thought to be the dog mentioned in the Bible. It is often found mummified along with the Eqyptian Pharaohs in Pyramids. The ancient Greeks and Romans developed a number of breeds including the greyhound, mastiff and bloodhound. The Romans made sacrifices to the dog-like god Procyon.
Dalmatians were trained to run along with horse and carriages in the mid 1800s, and became known as carriage dogs. Their job was to guard from other dogs which would chase the carriage and frighten the horses. Fire departments also used dalmatians to guard their carriages and the dalmatian became mascot of the fire service.
Labrador Retrievers originate from Newfoundland where they were trained by Canadian fisherman to dive into the icy waters off Canada to retrieve fishing nets and haul them back to the boat!
"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~ Anatole France
