It’s Harvest Time at Mellasat Vineyards
It was not long ago that we were chatting about Veraison and we are now proud to announce that we have started harvesting. The first grapes were harvested on 14th January 2020. Even though we had cooler temperatures during the growing season, we started early to capture the freshness and natural acidity in the grapes.
The first grapes to come in was Pinotage for our White Pinotage, the Chardonnay followed on 24th January and during the last week in January we harvested more Pinotage.
All the grapes that were processed, looked healthy and the grapes were full of flavour. Healthy bunches meant that the wine being made will have a lot of varietal flavour, depth and complexity. The yields on these varietals are on par and that is good news after the lower yields from last year.
If anyone is interested in visiting us to see what the winemaking team is up to, please give us a call. We are not shy to share our harvest with you. We’ve had a lot of interest from visitors recently, all keen to see what happens, and only a few steps from our tasting room!
