Volunteer Wildfire Services Fire and Fynbos Awareness Day
Volunteer Wildfire Services Fire and Fynbos Awareness Day
The Jonkershoek Volunteer Wildfire Services hosted their much anticipated Fire and Fynbos Awareness Day at the Lievland Wine Estate on Saturday the 4th of May. The aim was not only to promote awareness of what VWS does, but also to raise funds so that they can continue their good work.
The day started with the 14km Fireman’s Revenge Trail Run and the 6km Mellow Yellow Fun Run which saw contestants making their way through the forests and vineyards surrounding the venue.
From 09:00 the venue was open to the public and there was entertainment for everyone. There were plenty of food stalls, exhibitions, fire truck rides, pumps challenge, Tug-of-War, snake shows, live music, spot prizes, foam party and a young fire fighter competition with prizes.
A fire fighting helicopter also performed a mock fire fighting display with the VWS members. Here we got to see what the men and women of the VWS do in the mountains, out of sight, but always with great passion.
