The Guava Festival at Augusta Kleinbosch
The Guava Festival at Augusta Kleinbosch
Augusta Kleinbosch played host to the Guava Festival this past Saturday.
Despite the threat of rain, the weather played along and it was a beautiful day that was enjoyed by all. On offer was a variety of good food, wine tastings, live music, cooking demonstrations, plenty to keep the children entertained and of course, lots and lots of guavas.
On a cultural note, Augusta Kleinbosch is also home to the ‘Hugenote Gedenkskool’. Built in 1883 , it played a pioneering role in the recognition of Afrikaans in South Africa and is synonymous with the ‘Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners’. Also on the site is the Du Toit Graveyard, where various members of the Hugenot Du Toit family are buried, along with Martha, sister of Piet Retief.
