Peter de Villiers Book Signing
Peter de Villiers Book Signing
Peter de Villiers and Gavin Rich, the author, ended their book signing tour of the long anticipated “Politically Incorrect” at the Paarl Mall in collaboration with Bargain Books and Struik Publishers.
Peter de Villiers’ love for the sport started as a rugby-mad youngster growing up in Paarl. His career path was set after obtaining a Level 4 Higher Graduate coaching certificate from the Welsh Rugby Union. He coached the SA-under 19 team for three years after which he lead the SA under-21 team to winning the Junior World Cup in 2005. He was appointed as Springbok coach in 2008.
His vision was always to be the “leader behind the players “and through all his trials and tribulations has always stayed true to himself by never changing who he is as a person.
He instilled in his players the idea that rugby is important, but that you must always look after your family too.
Gavin Rich, a sports journalist of 21 years, was approached by Peter de Villiers in June 2011 to write his autobiography. At first Mr Rich was wary to take on the task, but as their relationship grew, he was convinced that he was the perfect candidate to tell the Peter de Villiers story.
Mr De Villiers & Mr Rich were in great spirits at the book signing and happily posed for photos with fans and supporters.
Bargain Books also had a Peter de Villiers look-a-like competition. Mr Peter Arnoldus, was the clear winner, wearing a Stormers jersey for the occasion.
Peter de Villiers has had a love / hate relationship with many of his fans but the rugby players he has coached through the years has a high regard for him.
In the foreword to his book “Politically Incorrect” John Smith muses that if you were to ask the players whom Peter has coached since 2007, which coach they would invite to dinner in 20 years’ time, he is sure that most of them will say Peter de Villiers.
