Meulwater Wild Flower Garden

Meulwater Wild Flower GardenPicnics: Bring your own.

The Meulwater Wild Flower garden was established in 1932 by the ladies of the Paarl Beautifying Association. They established the 4,5 ha wild flower reserve in an effort to preserve the indigenous fynbos – planting, sowing, pruning and growing cuttings, all by themselves. During World War 2 the Italian POWs helped them build the garden’s pond, stone bridge and pathways.

Today you can still visit these magnificent gardens and have a picnic or braai at the designated areas.

The garden has several species of proteas, ericas and fynbos. There are quite a few mountain hiking trails you can take from here, so go early in the morning before it gets hot to explore these routes. Remember to take a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes.
