We strive to inform, empower and to transform our community through broadcasting relevant developmental programs. Radio KC strives to free our listeners from illiteracy, child abuse, gangsterism, addiction, teenage pregnancies, poverty, racism, poor interpersonal skills etc.
Radio KC is also actively involved with community projects and fundraisers for charities. One of the projects is the Winter Warmth Project whereby we are asking the people to donate clothes that they are not using. Radio KC then distributes the clothes to the homeless people in our broadcasting area.
Radio KC has a current volunteer presenter core of 39 presenters. The age groups differ from the youngest being 17 years old to the oldest being in their 60s. They broadcast secular (talk shows, magazine, entertainment), as well as religious programmes.
The presenters’ training is done on Saturdays. The training is based on the Workers World & ABC Ulwazi & children’s broadcasting manual. During the training focus is placed on the theoretical and technical aspects of radio broadcasting.
The station’s volunteer program is a stepping stone for fledgling radio presenters. Some of them have even made it big in the media world. Peter Stemmet, who presented Drive Time at Radio KC, is now a sports presenter at E-TV and Vincent Silengile who was our night manager is now the insert producer at E-TV.
The station has also initiated a number of partnerships through the years. We’ve collaborated with Koinonia, GM Thorp Paarl, Bostons Business City Campus Paarl, Boland Rugby, Regent Insurance, ShowMe Paarl, Newspod, Paarl Post and The Grapevine.
The station has a full time staff contingent of 6 members. Eldoray van der Westhuizen is our station manager. Ian Morris & Wilma Brooks Delport is in charge of the Programmes Department. Meagan van der Vent is the Production Manager. The team is rounded off with Karen Hermanus that is looking after Administration and Finance and Deborah Adams doing General Office Work.
