Rassie Erasmus Relieved regarding The Flag and Anthem of SA
Rassie Erasmus, South Africa’s director of rugby, expressed his relief on Tuesday regarding the Springboks’ ability to display their flag in the upcoming Rugby World Cup quarterfinal. This came after South Africa lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a decision by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Despite the ongoing situation, Erasmus emphasized that regardless of the outcome, the team would wholeheartedly represent South Africa.
“We would be representing South Africa, no matter the circumstances. The boys are completely focused on the match. We’re pleased that the situation is somewhat resolved,” Erasmus stated.
Looking ahead to the match against France, Erasmus acknowledged the return of influential scrumhalf Antoine Dupont, who had recovered from a cheekbone fracture. Erasmus acknowledged the challenge Dupont posed, expressing confidence in his ability to play despite the injury.
Regarding France’s tactics, Erasmus noted their strategic approach, especially in highlighting high hits to the referee, although he acknowledged that similar tactics were employed by various teams. As the team prepared for the quarterfinal, Erasmus mentioned that the coaching staff was considering the composition of the bench, deliberating between the number of backs and forwards to include.
“We’re fortunate in our choices, and that’s why we’re still deciding whether it will be 7/1 or 6/2. After our internal discussions tomorrow, the players will fall into place,” Erasmus concluded.
