Crossing Centre To Take A Stand For People With Disabilities
Crossing Centre to ruffle a few feathers
Mbombela – “I will only be 5 minutes”, “I just need to draw money”, “I don’t like walking very far” and “I have a sore knee!”, these are just some of the excuses people use when parking in bays reserved for people with disabilities. Crossing Centre in Nelspruit will have none of that any longer.
On the morning of Friday, 28 July the centre will launch their campaign to make people aware of how their behaviour has a great influence on others.
“We are sure that the outcome will be positive and embraced by all” – said Ms Anita McGarry – Crossing Centre Management
Sometimes when you have an important message to convey, you need to ruffle a few feathers. On Friday the Centre plans to park wheelchairs in parking bays reserved for abled shoppers. “We hope that this will hit home with people, giving some a taste of their own medicine”, says Centre Management. The chairs that will be used in the campaign were bought by Crossing Centre and will be donated to various organisations. A total of 15 wheel chairs and 8 walkers were purchased and will be donated after this initiative.
“It is a campaign aimed at educating shoppers. For example, many do not realise the importance of wider parking bays for the disabled, being two fold in that it can accommodate wheelchairs and walkers, as well as preventing any damage to other vehicles..”, Centre Management added. “We are sure that the outcome will be positive and embraced by all”.
