Nico Bell of team NAD, 1st place men’s 110km

Barberton – The 23rd Barberton XCM MTB Challenge presented by Rotary Club Barberton and sponsored by The Local Choice Pharmacy, took place in the iconic town of Barberton at Barberton High School in Mpumalanga on a cloudy summer’s day.

The massive rainfall received the night before made for a very exciting race and did not stop the almost 1200 #DaisyWarriors from taking on the Makhonjwa Mountains.

The defending champion Nico Bell and now a 3rd time winner, took 1st place in the men’s ultra marathon of 110km in a time of 4:47.24. Alan Gordon took 2nd place with Gawie Combrinck in 3rd.

Samantha Sanders of team Dormakaba SA taking 1st women’s 110km

Samantha Sanders was the women’s winner of the ultra marathon 110km after crossing the finish line in 5:32:40. Emily Clarke took 2nd place while Yzette Oelofse came 3rd.

Brand du Plessis took the men’s full marathon of 77km in 3:24.14 with Timo Cooper in 2nd and Wayne van der Walt in 3rd.

The woman’s full marathon was won by Kristen Louw with a time of 4:02.07 with Vanessa Bell coming in 2nd and Bronwynne Swanepoel taking 3rd place.
