City of Mbombela, Mpumalanga – The Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation and Riverside CID have teamed up with local NPO Thrive Students to invest in the University of Mpumalanga students at a weekend mathematics camp. The joint effort has attracted sponsorship and participation from NPE Construction and Trublo. Anton Swanevelder from Trublo, a software development company, and Rozel-Mari Kitchen and Given Mokoena from NPE Construction gave motivational speeches to the students, inspiring them through sharing personal experiences and insights on how they have leveraged mathematics in their respective careers.
“We believe that our industry leaders’ experiences will help the students see the value of mathematics and inspire them to pursue careers that require a strong foundation in the subject,” said Jessica Prim, marketing coordinator for Riverside CID.

The maths camp took place over the weekend of 10 March and consisted of intensive mathematics revision taught by experienced and qualified tutor Paul Schoenfeld from Thrive Students, who has his master’s degree in mechanical engineering and has a passion for maths. The 16 students who attended had the opportunity to ask questions, clarify doubts and receive individual attention through this unique opportunity to gain insights and guidance from experienced professionals. It is one of several weekend camps offered by Thrive Students this year. The organization also has a registered students society on the campus offering regular academic support and exam revision to maths students throughout their semesters.
“We are proud to partner with Thrive Students to host this maths camp for the University of Mpumalanga students and grateful for sponsorship from NPE Construction towards the event,” said Gary Phillips, Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation Programme Manager. “Mathematics is an essential component of many career paths, and we believe that by providing sponsorship and motivational speeches, we can help these students reach their full potential.”
The Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation and Riverside CID are dedicated to promoting education and investing in the development of young people in the community. Supporting this maths camp is just one of several initiatives aimed at providing support and resources to students who may face obstacles in achieving their academic goals. We encourage the community and businesses to reach out and get involved in these or other exciting and impactful initiatives that are planned.
