Heidel Eggs and Crossing Spar Kiddies Cookoff
Heidel Eggs and Crossing SuperSpar hosted a kiddies cookoff competition on Saturday at Crossing Centre to celebrate World Egg Day.
Children between 7 years and 14 years old were given a list of ingredients prior to the event and were then expected to cook something on the day of the event using anything on the list of ingredients – preferably using eggs somewhere in their dish.
Judges were well known Lowveld Chefs – Koos from Stoep, Simon from The Winkler Hotel. Estelle Roe from Junxion Communications represented Heidel Eggs as a judge and Dr Anthony de Pontes judged the health and nutritional value of each of the dishes that the participants prepared.
Fun was had by all, in fact it wasn’t always clear who was having more fun and who was more stressed out – the children participating or the parents and spectators watching the cooking competition.
It was extremely difficult for the judges to choose winners as the quality, ingredient mix and creativeness of the dishes far exceeded those from previous years of hosting this competition. Herewith the various winners on the day as well as the main prize winner:
- 1st prize – 1 week away in Bilene for a whole family from Heide Eggs – Cara Grobler (age 11)
- 2cd prize – weekend away at Winkler Hotel – Lily-Anne Britz (age 8)
- Tie 3rd prize – lunch at Winkler Hotel – Mea Vermeulen (age 11)
- Tie 3rd prize – lunch at Winkler Hotel – Jana van Rooyen (age 10)
