Discover Scuba Diving | Blue Wave Scuba
Have you always wanted to discover the magic of the underwater world? Blue Wave Scuba host a FREE Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) course at the Van Riebeeck Park swimming pool every Tuesday. If you’re thinking about doing a Scuba diving course, this is a great introduction to the sport. We were there yesterday (19th of Feb) to find out what it’s all about!
The course starts at about 17h30 with a quick meet and greet of the group and signing of indemnity documents. Owner of Blue Wave Scuba, Tinus Opperman, provides a lesson on basic safety rules, diving equipment used and dispels any myths or fears you might have concerning your first dive. Tinus is a highly experienced diver & it is clear that he is very passionate about the sport.
After about 30 minutes of theory it’s into to the water for a 15 minute pool session. It is held in the shallow side making it safe and it starts very slow so everybody can slowly adjust. At first you start by standing and just putting your face in the water and getting used to breathing through the regulator. This new experience is often accompanied by giggling, a sign that the nerves are starting to disappear and everyone is starting to feel much more relaxed. From here depending on your progress you will end up doing a short dive in the pool, some time to enjoy and finish up by 19h00.
If you are interested in becoming a scuba diver, we suggest you get down the pool on Tuesday evenings with Blue Wave Scuba. It’s a fantastic way to spend a summer evening in the Lowveld and learn something new!
