Canary Kurper
Name
Canary Kurper
Identification
Like with the other Tilapia species the Canary Kurper has sharp pointed fins, especially the dorsal fin. It is distinguished by the yellow colouration on the belly and fins, as well as red spots (egg spots), that are visible on the anal, costal and dorsal fins. The average size for these fish is about 300 grams.
How to locate
These fish are mostly caught in the summer months in shallow warm water and at times, when they are feeding actively, can become a nuisance as they will take any bait offered almost immediately. Found in almost all the dams in the province.
Baits to use
When the Canary Kurper is feeding they will take any bait, such as art lure, dough type baits, spinner baits, but the favourite is still worms.
Tackle to use
The tackle to use when targeting these fish are to be as light as possible, the lighter the better.
