Volvo GreenForBlue Awards
The winners of The Volvo GreenForBlue Awards were announced on Saturday the 14th of September, 2013 at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden.
The Volvo GreenForBlue Awards is an annual environmental competition that is run by the AutoTec Foundation in conjunction with the Department of Education and Environmental Affairs. The aim of the competition is to award and recognise the schools and teachers that create the greatest awareness about nature conservation among there pupils.
Guest speakers included Dumisani Madubandlela from CANSA who spoke about the importance of educating our children about acting smart when it comes to diet, exercise, sun exposure and smoking. Chris Daniel from African Education Stories spoke about educating children to help save our rhino through his book entitled Bongi’s Quest.
Ms Philile Mbatha from the Department of Education congratulated all the educators for their hard work that they have done thus far and for what they continue to do.
The winners received prizes ranging from laptops to printers, laminating machines and internet. The winning school received a big screen tv and a new pump for their borehole.
All guests were reminded to remember that the world we are living in has been lent to us from the future generation, let’s take care of it!
