Mbombela – The 9th FNB Mpumalanga Wine Show took place at the Emnotweni Arena on Thursday and Friday evening.

Lowveld wine lovers made it a date night for an evening of great wine tastings and to connect with winemakers or their marketing representatives while tasting an array of more than 250 of South Africa’s best wines. List of 2018 Exhibitors

The exhibitors gave detailed descriptions and processes of their fine wines and made each and every taste a little trip to their special vineyards. We chose 3 wines to definitely look out for followed by the photo gallery of the evening.

Jordan Wines :

IMG_1768(Edited)Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines at this top wine estate since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years.

Together this husband and wife team is a phenomenon. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 164 hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specialising in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes.

Their 2016 Chameleon Rose, a dry classic French “blanc de noir” style made from a free-run juice blend of Shiraz and Merlot. Excellent with flash-fried prawns and red-chilli vinaigrette.

The Bon Courage Wine Estate :

IMG_1775(Edited)Located in the heart of the beautiful Robertson valley – a valley of wines and roses – lies Bon Courage Estate, home to some of South Africa’s finest wines and recognized both locally and internationally for their exceptional quality.

The stately Cape Dutch homestead dates back to 1818 and the estate has enjoyed the attention and dedication of three generations of the Bruwer family since 1927.

Their Unwooded Chardonnay is of Tropical tones with orange peel and melon notes. Citrus shows in clean, lively mouth with some lees and lime notes.

Clean, fresh, lemon zesty finish. It can be enjoyed with crumbled fish, fried calamari, chicken casseroles and roast pork with applesauce.

Ken Forrester Vineyards :

IMG_1798(Edited)Ken Forrester Wines has a superb reputation for Chenin Blanc, and this first sparkling wine in the classic tradition is no exception called Their Sparklehorse MCC.

A 100% Chenin Blanc an ideal bubbly to celebrate with and equally at home with light creamy chicken and fish dishes. A carefully selected cool vineyard site allows the grapes to mature while maintaining the all important refreshing acidity.

Scholtzenhof, one of the very oldest wine farms in the Cape, was originally granted as Zandberg in 1689. Just ten years after Stellenbosch was founded, the original land, 64 morgen, was given by Governor Simon van der Stel to Frederick Boot, of Gotha (near Wagenheim in Germany), who later changed his name to Botha.

As always, ShowMe Nelspruit was there to #ExperienceWine for ourselves…and of course to see Lowvelders doing the same. See some of the evenings photos here…
