Lowveld Local | Manqoba Sishaba
Street Style has become just as important a fashion trend as the international runways and street style now has an ambassador in Mpumalanga. ShowMe Nelspruit caught up with the new kid on the block, 18 year old street stylist Manqoba Sishaba.
Manqoba has always been creative, but only recently started channeling his talent into fashion by launching his fashion label Picasso with partner Zweli Ngwenya. Manqoba has quickly built up a strong following among children from Penryn College and Lowveld High, and now strives for even more.
What do you stand for?
I believe in the importance of uplifting the youth of today, as we are the future of tomorrow.
What was the happiest moment of your life?
Seeing my life transform for the better. Instead of spending countless hours stuck behind a desk, through my designs I have now found a better purpose in life.
What don’t people know about you?
Before becoming a designer I was a Sunday Times promoter for about 2 years. Great things came from my time there, my manager had a huge influence on my life, motivating me to do my best in everything I do.
What is your kryptonite?
Compassion. I always put others before myself. It has hurt me in the past, but I just can’t put myself first.
What grates your carrot?
Two things. People who respond to messages with ‘k’ and people who are completely unprepared for situations that they know are going to happen.
What have you done that you are most proud of?
I’m most proud of being just 18 years old and knowing what I want out of life. I am exceptionally proud of my fashion label.
Have you ever saved a life?
Not unless donating blood counts.
What would you be if you weren’t you?
I would love to be a pilot or an architect.
Which word/phrase do you overuse
I always say “but ya…” when I can’t think of a way to complete a sentence.
Which reality show would you like to take part in?
Future Leaders on MTV Base.
