Your Average Lowvelder Knows
During the Innibos National Arts Festival, Nelspruit transforms from a quiet town to a vibrant city hub within a week. The best advice about the do’s and don’ts usually comes from the locals themselves.
Cashless is King
This year, Innibos has embraced a cashless system at entry gates, bars, and external event areas. Forget rummaging for change; just tap your way through with your favourite cashless service. Both cash and card payments are accepted at food vendors, stalls, and on joyrides.
Free Parking
Ever parked in the strangest spots near Bergvlam School during the festival? Well, there’s a better option now. Just park at Ilanga Mall near the Mercure Hotel and hop on the bus. It’ll zip you directly to Gate 1 of Innibos for free, with buses departing every half hour. Bossewaens also offer round trips to theatre productions from Ilanga Mall for R40—grab your tickets at Gate 1 at the TRAC stall.
Locals are Truly Lekker
Lowvelders know that there’s more to our region than just the arts. Check out the hidden gems like cosy coffee spots and unique boutique shops. Don’t miss the family-friendly Lowveld Botanical Gardens, or take a scenic drive to Kaapsehoop Village, home to wild roaming horses (just don’t feed them). Friends Café offers a 2.5km walking route for morning walkers and a 5km trail for runners. Refuel afterwards with breakfast and freshly brewed coffee at Friends.
Kids Come for Free
You got it right—kids from babies up to primary school age enter Innibos for free. They’ll have a blast in the Woelwaters area, filled with fun activities and childminders to keep an eye on them. Activities range from cupcake decorating to bouncing around on inflatables. Plus, there’s a comfy, clean baby room for those necessary nappy changes or a quiet feed.
Never Mind the Weather
The debate continues: While the Lowveld is warm and mild by day, it can surprisingly drop to 10C at night. Dress warmly for evening shows and mind the breezy days. If you forget a jacket, no worries—Nelspruit’s shops or the Bos Mall will have you covered with some nifty local deals.
We hope these tips help visitors and enhance the experience for everyone at Innibos.
Stay safe and have fun!
