Ribbokkloof 4×4 Trails
Ribbokkloof Holiday Farm offers 4×4 experiences for 4×4’s, Quad Bikes and Dirt Bikes. A variety of trails offer different challenges for different skill levels.
The Ribbokkloof 4×4 trail is graded level 2 to 4 and includes a 3km riverbed obstacle course and a 27km scenic route through Highveld vegetation.
If you’re lucky, you may spot one of our shy Mountain Reedbuck or even a family of Warthog out for a stroll!
Our trail provides enough variation to provide enjoyment for novices, and an exhilarating challenge for experienced drivers alike and has been designed to ensure no damage to your vehicle. (Note: 4×4 low range gear ratio is essential.)
There is a 4 to 12km scenic route for beginners or a mountain trail for the more experienced.
Accommodation is available in the form of chalets alongside a mountain stream and rock pools, each with a private braai area. The kitchens are fully equipped but bring all your bedding.
How to get there
From Pretoria, take the N4 and from Johannesburg take the N12 to Witbank/Middelburg. At Middelburg take the R555 toward Stoffberg and travel for 40km to the farm signposts.

Buffalo Gorge 4×4 trails
At Buffalo Gorge farm, your 4×4 experience covers different ecozones, making for variation and stunning views over the Avontuur Valley and Selons River.
The “safari route” has some interesting historical and ecological sites and covers a distance of about 18km. Quad Bikes will also have fun.
The 4×4-trail consists of most of the elements encountered when driving an off-road trail. There are varying conditions – from short mud sections to short rocky climbs and descents with marvelous scenery and grass-covered slopes.
Although rated between a grade 2 and 3, seasonal changes could make the trail more challenging, especially when wet.
In addition to the trail, the farm offers an obstacle course.
This second trail, namely the “Bobbejaanloop Playground,” is a more challenging river section consisting of 16 amazing crossings of various difficulty.
You may require guiding to prevent vehicle damage.
