Record trade at newly expanded Middelburg Mall
Mpumalanga’s Middelburg Mall has seen record trade since the hugely successful opening of its R200 million Phase Two Expansion on 16 October, 2014.
Some 30,000 shoppers and visitors descended on Middelburg Mall for the opening day of the Phase Two Expansion. However, what’s even more incredible is that we’ve seen record trade since the opening of the 12,000sqm extended retail area, says a delighted Middelburg Mall General Manager, Mike Tammadge.
The significant R200 million investment by Middelburg Mall’s joint owners and developers, Flanagan & Gerard Property Investments and the Moolman Group, takes the mall to more than 56,000sqm in size.

The expansion has been very well received by shoppers and retailers alike. It comes in the wake of demand for retail space as the mall has consistently grown in popularity since opening in April 2012.
Middelburg Mall’s second phase is anchored by Spar, Tops at Spar, Cotton On, and Ackermans. Other exciting new retail options, included DisChem and Mr Price Sport in addition to a generous serving of restaurant and fast food outlets.
Tammadge confirms: “Opening day of the Mall’s new phase was a tremendous success with thousands of excited shoppers keen to get a taste of the Mall’s greater retail offering and brand new stores. Spar, John Dory’s, Wakaberry and Chicken Licken all reported an overwhelmingly positive response from shoppers on the first day of trade.
He adds: The excellent trade continues. In fact, this past weekend (24-26 October) we experienced a new weekend record for shoppers, with 83 909 people visiting the mall. We now look forward to a bumper festive season and Christmas trading at the new and improved Middelburg Mall.
Jannie Moolman of the Moolman Group comments: “The expansion has seen Middelburg Mall bolster its status as a leading regional shopping centre in Mpumalanga. This second phase is in direct response to solid demand for even more quality retail as Middelburg Mall proves to be a catalyst for economic growth in the community.”
Middelburg Mall Phase Two creates 400 Jobs
Paul Gerard, Managing Director of Flanagan & Gerard says: The Middelburg community can be immensely proud of the growth and success of Middelburg Mall, which continues to keep valuable retail spend in the region. The instant success of the new phase illustrates that this is an excellent investment as well as the mall’s potential for continued growth.
Middelburg Mall now boasts more than 130 retail stores, restaurants and service outlets, offering a top-notch and diverse shopping experience to residents and visitors. It is ideally situated just off the N4 highway and is easily accessible from the Samora Machel Avenue (formally Fontein Street) off-ramp and Mandela Drive (formally Tswelopele Street) intersection.
