Highveld Hockey Power Series Begins

Saturday 16 May saw the start of The Hockey Power Series, a brand new hockey league for the Highveld region of Mpumalanga.

It has been many years since this region has had its own hockey league and its start is a great milestone in Highveld hockey history.

The first three matches of the Series were played at The Hockey Farm this past weekend.  First up, Witbank 1st Ladies played Middelburg 1st Ladies in an exciting match which eventually saw Witbank winning with a score of 4-2. This match was followed by Witbank 2nd Team Ladies versus Middelburg 2nd Ladies in another nail-biting match which ended without score.

Finally, Middelburg’s 1st Team Men took to the field against The Bulldogs of Witbank in a fast paced, thrilling contest of some of the finest quality hockey.  By the end whistle both teams left the field exhausted with the final score 3-0 to Middelburg.

The Hockey Power Series has both a Men’s and Women’s league and currently has teams from Middelburg, Secunda and Witbank.  Teams from other Highveld towns and cities are expected to join in the near future.

The HPS is a senior league but high school teams more serious about their hockey are welcome to join in on the action. League matches take place on Saturday Afternoons and will only be played on Artificial Turf fields.
