Cloof Wines, Darling, Cape West Coast

Cloof Wines, Darling, Cape West CoastCloof Wines, near Darling in the Western Cape, have planted bush vines which they believe best suit  local conditions and are integral to the unique style and quality of their wines. This decision has most certainly paid off. Every year tens of thousands of wines are tasted in the course of being judged for wine shows or wine ratings. The few that truly make an impression receive gold medals and high scores. Cloof wines have often been amongst the most favoured, as evidenced by the growing number of certificates decorating the tasting room walls.

Together with Burgers Post Farm, under the same ownership, 365ha of vines give unparalleled access to top quality fruit.

In 2003 Darling was declared a wine region in its own right in recognition of the unique style and quality of wines grown here. The prevailing south-easterly wind protects the fruit from rot, and at night cloaks the vineyards in chilly, flavour-preserving air blown in from the Atlantic Ocean. The bush vines provide a canopy which shades the grapes from direct sunlight. The smaller crop results in smaller berries with thicker skins, and much more concentrated flavours.

Tasting Room: Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

The versatile indoor and rustic outdoor spaces, with uninterrupted views over vineyards and plains, make Cloof the perfect wedding venue. The tranquil, down-to-earth country feeling is a canvas that can be coloured any way that takes your fancy.

Cloof Restaurant offers light lunches in the tasting room. Much of the fresh produce used is organically grown in their gardens; salads are often picked minutes before appearing on guests’ plates. Open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday: 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. Please note, it’s advisable for larger groups to make advance booking.

We have partnered with CapeNature and proclaimed our natural remnants as a Voluntary Conservation Site re-introducing locally indigenous wildlife into the reserve.

From Cape Town take the R315, and Cloof Wine Estates is between Malmesbury and Darling. Make sure you follow the Malmesbury and not the Atlantis Route.
