Good ideas
Here are six great do-it-yourself home and craft ideas to do yourself.
1. Love Life
Blank canvas squares (available in art shops) are not just for those who are great with a brush. Cover them with fabric, paper or paint, and add a letter to each, spelling out a word. Make each letter a different size, texture and font to the rest, and hang your word art along the wall or on a door.
2. Growing Gift
A living gift is always a great idea. But how do you present it? Wrap the container in a length of fabric, finished off with a tied ribbon to hold it all in place.
An elastic band placed under the ribbon will keep things nice and tidy.
3. Cheesy Pan-Toasties
Don’t have a snackwich machine to make your favourite Toasted-cheese sarmie? Make one in your non-stick pan! Place a few slices of cheese between two slices of bread. Spray the pan with non-stick spray and heat moderately. Toast the sandwich in the pan, turning it over until both sides are golden and the cheese has melted. Use a bit of butter or oil if you’re not counting kilojoules.
4. Melting Hearts
Soften a brick of butter or margarine. Scoop into silicone ice trays with cute shapes and smooth out the tops. Freeze until solid and pop out. Keep in the fridge until needed.
5. Scribble It
A kitchen list is never complete – there’s always something we run out of when it least suits us. Paint a clipboard with blackboard paint (two coats is best), attach a piece of chalk with some ribbon, and keep as a handy scribble board on a hook in the kitchen.
6. Clip Art
For gorgeous fridge magnets in a jiffy, simply glue a magnet onto a wooden clothing peg and decorate the other side with paper flowers, pictures, or anything that sparkles. Your peg can also be used to pretty up a hanging cord or unsightly burglar bars in a child’s bedroom. Clip them anywhere!
