Frustrated South Africans turn to Solar for Power
The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association says solar power is quickly becoming popular among South Africans who are frustrated by load shedding.
The association says that solar photovoltaic providers receive up to 1 700 applications from households per day, with about 75 daily installations.
Townes said: “Many of these property owners not only have the budget but also the roof space available to be net energy contributors and could therefore potentially benefit from the new scheme.”
He said that the capitalization rates in Cape Town traditionally run a little lower than the national average in the property sector, and this widening of value is also likely to increase with investors who own suitable properties seeing a healthy capital appreciation.
“Property valuations should therefore also increase as a property with the potential for self-generated energy as well as an additional income stream will surely impact its value.”
