Bunny Park in Benoni, Ekurhuleni (East Rand)
The Bunny Park in Rynfield, Benoni, is the perfect spot for a day’s outing with 3-10 year old children. Here they can burn off all their excess energy trying to entice the furry bunnies with carrot bearing outstretched hands. They can then hold their furry “trophy catch”, hopefully not squeezing them too tightly. The rabbits can escape to their holes, where babies are often nestled.
There are all manner of other farmyard animals roaming about, including ducks, geese, chickens, sheep, goats, peacocks, pigs and donkeys, all of whom can be fed. Bring your own carrots, lettuce, bread (for ducks) and seeds or buy some from the kiosk.
When the kids tire of all the animals, it is time to head over to the playground, where you will find swings, slides, an old tractor and a whole lot of other rides, for a fee.
Take a picnic basket to replenish the calories the kids will spend on running around, while you can relax and watch the antics from under the shade of the trees. You can buy snacks and drinks such as chips, chocolates and cold-drinks at the kiosk and there is a hot-dog stand. Just watch out for the geese… they might just want a taste of your lunch as well!
The toilets are fairly clean for a public place, but as always, bring along those wet-wipes just in case!
