On a cloudy day in the Northern Sabi Sands we came across a hyena. As we followed it another one appeared. They started chasing each other around and then ended up in a small pond. The interaction was amazing.
Normally people see hyenas as ugly, scavengers sneaking around and stealing food where they can. The images show a different side, a playful side, one that shows how vital interaction is within a clan.
When we thought everything was over another hyena pitched up and went straight into the water. The playing started again and the three splashed around for a good thirty minutes. This was definitely one of the best hyena sightings I have ever had.
