One of the reasons Knysna is such a popular fishing destination is because of its wide variety of fish.

Much of the fishing is based around the Knysna Lagoon which is popular for estuary fishing with catches ranging from White Mussel Cracker, White Steenbras, Garrick (Leerie), Kob and Grunter, as well as the occasional Ragged Tooth Shark and a variety of different skates.

A – Aartappelland Fishing Spot

Edible fish: Steenbras, Kabeljou, Belman, Elf
Bait: Pilchards, choka, prawn, red bait

B – The Blokke Fishing Spot

Edible fish: Kabeljou, Galjoen, Musselcracker, Steenbras
Inedible fish: Bronze Whaler, Hammerhead Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Duckbill, Hound Shark
Bait: Pilchards, choka, prawn, white mussle, red bait

C – Castle Rock Fishing Spot

Edible Fish: Kabeljou, Steenbras, Elf, Belman, Blacktail, Mussel Cracker, Galjoen, Cape Stumpnose

D – Jaap Se Baai Fishing Spot

Edible fish species: Shad, Leervis, Mussel Cracker, Blacktail
Inedible species like Ragged Tooth Shark, Smooth Hound Shark, Spotted Gully Shark.
Bait: Use a steel trace with pilchard, choka, prawn, white mussel or live bait.
