Video: Knysna Mall owl returns home

Shoppers and some of the Knysna Mall staff were surprised by an unexpected visitor on the morning of the 17th of August 2022.

A beautiful little African Wood owl was spotted inside the shopping centre. A massive thank you to Raptor Rescue Plett who guided the owl to safety and then transported him to the vet for assessment.

Having waited for the weather to clear the little owl was released back into his environment on Sunday the 21st of August 2022.

Rapture Rescue met up with some of the members from the Lakes Bird Club – Garden Route SA, as well as the team from Pledge Nature Reserve – Knysna, to release the little owl in a more suitable location but within close enough proximity to where he was captured.

Although he was a little shell-shocked and took his time to adjust to his surroundings, he eventually flew off strongly and disappeared into the thicker brush on the reserve.

An all-round, happy Sunday afternoon, and another successful release.
