Three weeks to go before Knysna Film Fest
With the inaugural Knysna Film Festival now less than a month away, it’s time to break down what visitors can expect to see during the event that will take Knysna by storm for five days at the end of October.
News of the inaugural festival broke earlier this year during a proposal at a Knysna Tourism meeting, with organisers of the festival hoping the event would constitute an important step for the advancement of arts and culture in Knysna while also creating economic opportunities for the local community.
After months of waiting and anticipation, and with three weeks to go, now’s the time to take a look at what we can expect.
The festival will kick off on Tuesday 29 October with a screening of the latest film adaptation of Fiela se Kind directed by Brett Michael-Innes, which was released in theatres last month. The festival premiere of the film will take place at Premier Resort Hotel The Moorings at 18:30. You can grab your tickets online through Computicket.
Thereafter there will be four days of non-stop cinematic euphoria, with 47 films screened at 11 locations spread across three precincts.
The first precinct comprises four locations at the Waterfront; the second is made up of five locations around Thesen Island Harbour Town, and the third features two theatres at the Premier Resort.
Of the 47 films, 39 will be competing in a competition. Those that are not in competition include the four open-air theatre screenings and the opening-night film. The competition, which runs throughout the festival, ends with the awards gala event on Saturday 2 November, once again at Premier Resort, at 18:30.
The competing films comprise 23 feature-length and 16 short films and come from all over the world, representing 11 countries, Of these, there are 29 South African films.
All-in-all, Knysna is bound to be abuzz with film action, so be sure to not miss out on this piece of history and grab your tickets which are all available online.
