Testing station remains closed
The four officials in the Knysna Municipality Community Services Directorate who are suspected for irregularly issuing roadworthy certificates are still under precautionary suspension and the testing station remains closed.
This follows after a whistleblower approached the Knysna Municipality in January this year with allegations that officials were issuing roadworthy certificates to vehicle owners without the requisite certification.
Knysna municipal manager Lauren Waring says that the investigation is sub judice and there will be no further comment until guilt or innocence has been confirmed.
“The Municipality supports the integrity of this process and it is of the utmost importance that impartial and uninfluenced investigations are conducted. All affected officials are given the benefit of the doubt and will not be considered guilty until proven so.”
Waring says furthermore that the relevant officials are at this time not considered to be guilty of anything but were removed from active duty to ensure an impartial and uninfluenced investigation. It is for this reason that the municipality is not releasing their names at this stage.
