Stellar Aimee shining in Pietermaritzburg
Aimee Canny has been flying the Knysna flag high at the 2020 SA Short Course Championships, earning herself a bronze and gold medal in the first two days of competition – an achievement made all the more significant as she is typically a long-course swimmer.
On Saturday 24 October, Aimee powered her way to a third-place finish in the open women’s age group 400m freestyle event in a time of 4:09.90 – just under two seconds behind Dune Coetzee (18) in the first place.
In the 200m freestyle race on Sunday 25 October, the young swimmer earned herself a gold in a personal best time of 1:56:78, narrowly missing out on a World Short Course Championships qualifying time.
Aimee will be taking on the 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley events today, and the 50m freestyle event tomorrow when the competition ends.
