Sedge’s charity swingers
A full field of golfers took to the greens at Sedge Links last Sunday as part of a series of golf days set to take place in the coming months in support of local charities.
The first Sunday of September, October and November was dedicated towards the Sedgefield Pharmacy Charity Golf Series, but due to inclement weather on Sunday 6 September, the event was postponed to 13 September, when 36 golfers pitched up to take part in the first of the three golf days.
Two charities in Sedgefield will be benefiting from the series – Busy Bugz Early Childhood Development Centre and The Living Cornerstone homes for people living with Alzheimer’s.
While the weather had been terrible the week prior, golfers were treated last Sunday to partly cloudy skies and some not-too-heavy winds to slightly pump up the challenge that presents itself in the form of the Sedge Links course.

Things got underway with a shotgun start at 09:00, and with 18 Sedge Links members and 18 non-members, there were a few newcomers to the course who would need time to adjust.
Nevertheless, a fun day was had by all and by midday everyone had completed 18 holes and it was time for prize-giving. Before the top pairings were announced, nearest to the pins were awarded to Todd Walker (4/13) and Willem de Villiers (8/17).
When it came time for the top prizes, in third place was Tim van Zeller and Boedie Tillie with 46 points, while second place was taken by Henry and Hester Crowther with 47 points (count-out), and Mark Norris and Peter Schnetler won the day on a count-out with 47 points.
