The world has been turned upside-down, it is the end of existence as we know it, but a comforting constant remains because of the tireless refuse removal workers…

Amid all the uncertainty regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, residents can rest assured about one thing at least – that the removal of their refuse will go ahead as it did before.
While the majority of people are forced to stay within the confines of their homes, select groups of essential workers are allowed to be out in the streets doing their jobs.
These include municipal workers required to help carry out some of the basic services of a municipality. As such, the usual refuse removal schedule remains unchanged, according to municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhout.
“Refuse removal remains the same and all employees are provided with the necessary protective gear,” Bezuidenhout said.
“It should be noted that only curbside collection at households and businesses will be provided.”
The municipality has also requested that all residents “double-bag” their refuse and “store” it for three to five days before putting it in the bin that will be handled by the refuse collectors.
“To prevent any potential Covid-19 contamination through contact surfaces on the rubbish, waste from these homes must please be double-bagged and stored for a period of three to five days before being placed in the general waste bin for collection by the municipality,” Bezuidenhout requested.
