Re-opening of libraries, galleries and museums during alert level 03 of lockdown
Cinemas, theatres, libraries, galleries and museums to re-open in terms of the directions to be issued by Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa.
“Unfortunately, the Ministry has still not determined an opening date for libraries and museums. We have however received a circular on June 30, from the ministry that informs us about the pending lifting of the lockdown regulation of the arts & culture sector. I would like to assure our citizens and patrons that we have put protocols in place to ensure their safety when we open our doors,” said Knysna Municipality Acting Municipal Manager, Dr. Louis Scheepers.
The Ministers Directions will allow for the re-opening of museums, galleries, libraries and archives subject to strict adherence to all health protocols regarding re-opening of these facilities.
The municipality will then have to apply to the Minister within 14 days after publication of the directions and will be approved, subject to compliance with protocols that will be published in the Minister’s guidance in the next few days.
Please note that we have renewed all library materials on loan to you during this period, to ensure that no fines accumulate against your name. An announcement will be communicated as soon as an opening date has been confirmed by the ministry.
The safety of our citizens remains a priority during these trying times. We continue to urge citizens to stay at home and only leave to acquire essentials services, as the Western Cape province number of infections is increasing drastically.
“Stay safe, stay at home and curb the spread,” said Scheepers.
