‘Radio an integral part of Community’
On Monday Wave Broadcasting and Entertainment held a business breakfast at the Turbine hotel with the focus of the day to make the Garden Route great again, and reminding people that video has most certainly not yet killed the radio star.
Owner Gordon Hoffman, who runs both Knysna 97.0FM (Knysna) and MC 90.3FM (Plettenberg Bay), addressed business owners on the importance of using local radio stations like his as a means of not only advertising your products but also communicating with your audience.
He said it was also an opportunity to look at the business after the kind of year Knysna and the Garden Route, in general, have had, and to build positive relationships with each other.
He said radio is sometimes taken for granted but that it is an integral part of the community.
He used his stations as an example.
“Knysna 97.0FM and MC 90.3FM are unique radio stations which are completely localised, niched for tourism and business development, making an important contribution through informative, entertaining and contemporary programming to the Garden Route, its communities and a large number of local and international tourists who visit the area,” he said.
Western Cape minister of agriculture, economic development and tourism Alan Winde was a guest speaker at the business breakfast.
Hoffman said that because radio stations like his are localised, they know better how to work with and do business with locals.
“Radio is the theatre of the mind and an extremely important medium with which to communicate,” he said.
A handful of business owners attended Wave Broadcasting and Entertainment’s business breakfast at the Turbine hotel on Monday 13 November.
Guest speaker during the event, Western Cape minister of agriculture, economic development and tourism Alan Winde agreed with Hoffman and said that radio advertising was one of the Western Cape government’s biggest spends due to the multitudes of people it can reach.
He then continued by discussing various rebuilding issues with those in attendance and also addressed some issues these business owners had.
