Pine Stars stay at the top of the domestic league
Rheenendal-based soccer club Pine Stars continue to fly high at the summit of the KLFA Domestic League, remaining top of the log following last weekend’s matches.
A number of matches were played over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 4 and 5 December, with 18 fixtures split up between the Hornlee Sport Grounds, Loerie Park and the sport fields in Smutsville in Sedgefield.
It was round three in the 2021/22 Knysna Local Football Association (KLFA) Domestic League season, with more clubs coming to the fore to play their first games of the season.
The third round would see Crossroads, Two For Joy, CX Swallows, FC Rebels and United Brothers all playing their first matches of the fledgling season. On Saturday all of the fixtures were played in Hornlee, with matches in the Safa Eden Men’s Regional League also played on the day, in between some Domestic League games.
The biggest win of the day went to league new boys La Liga who trumped Sedgefield-based outfit Two For Joy 6-1 in both sides’ first game of the day. The seven-goal tally would be matched by two other games on the day – a 4-3 win for FC Rebels over United Brothers and a 4-3 win for La Liga over newly promoted Voota.
On the next day, matches were split between Loerie Park and Smutsville, hosting five and four games respectively.
Two For Joy was on the receiving end of yet another big defeat, this time at the hands of Young Chiefs who thumped them 9-0 on their home turf in Smutsville.
This was, however, not the most scored in one game on the day. This title as well as that of the highest scoring game of the weekend goes to the game between United Brothers and Richmond City played at Loerie Park where the latter earned an emphatic 7-3 win.
Log leaders Pine Stars only won one of their two games on Sunday, beating African Eagles 5-0 before losing 4-2 against Crossroads. Their efforts were enough to keep them top of the log though, with 15 points after five wins from seven matches. Young Chiefs are second on 10 points, ahead of African Eagles (third, also on 10 points but behind on goal difference), and La Liga in fourth on nine points.
